Being a therapist is rewarding, but it is also challenging.

Our work requires us to use ourselves as finely tuned instruments.  It is difficult to bring ourselves to sessions—over and over again—in this beautifully present way.  We need to stay open and resilient in the face of many challenges.

In this supportive and lively group, you will learn to use creativity as your number one resource in and out of session   Each meeting will provide the opportunity to learn and practice an evidence-based process, using art and creative expression, to soothe doubt, frustration, inadequacy, and overwhelm.

We will focus on using Collab-Art-wrITE.  This is a special process I’ve developed that helps you cultivate a relationship between painting and prose. It will take you further than you’ve ever gone before.

When you cultivate the art-write relationship your creative expression has the kind of depth and breadth that inspires great healing and inspiration.

Using Rick Hanson’s principals of positive neuroplasticity  you will learn to use art to  identify and grow amazingly powerful resources that will support you in being the kind of therapist and person you wish to be.

Sometimes, we feel lonely as therapists, even after being with clients all day…..

The one sidedness of our therapeutic relationships is important for our clients.  But, it’s also important to share our side of the experience–and much of the time this isn’t possible in the therapeutic relationship.  There’s no better way to do this than through art and creative expression with a group of other therapists who are warm, open, and curious.

There are lots of reasons to participate:

  • A desire to connect with others
  • A craving for more color and vitality
  • A need for catharsis
  • A wish to feel more engaged with clients
  • A longing to deepen the art experience through writing
  • …the list goes on.

Wish you could tap into the steady hum of creative energy that happens when a group makes art together?

Do you wish you could devote your creative practice to growing resources that keep you resilient and engaged?

I want this for myself and for others.

I created ArtSpace for this very reason.

ArtSpace is an art-write based process group for therapists.   It’s a place for therapists to get inspired and renew their creative energy.  It’s where therapists make friends with other creative therapists AND with their inner critic.  It’s where you get to experiment and play and feel more open and free.

When you cultivate your relationship with your creative process you are more engaged with your clients.  Your curiosity is robust and increases your ability to be present in session—even when facing uncertainty, doubt, or the unknown.  You learn to trust your intuition, your creativity, and collaborate better with your clients.

Here’s how ArtSpace works:

We will meet at my studio in Fair Oaks, CA twice a month for September, November and December.  Our October meeting is a full day retreat.   That’s 24 hours of inspiration, art, and sharing.

There’s plenty of comfortable art space in which to create and hang out.  I supply ALL of your art materials.  No need for you to bring anything.  You don’t even need art experience.  I’ve got it all covered!

Each meeting, we will dive deep and explore the experience of making the art.  We will also talk about the art activity’s applications in therapy—how we can use it with various clients, how we might change it to suit various clinical issues, and how it nurtures creative problem solving and resource building.
